FREELAND, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the 2018-19 MIAA Academic Honor Roll and the 2018-19 MIAA Team GPA Award. Trine University student-athletes increased their presence on the honor roll while Thunder teams once again made a strong showing.
The MIAA Team GPA Award is presented to member athletic teams that achieve a 3.3 or better GPA for an academic year. Trine finished with three of five-member teams that turned in a GPA of 3.7 or higher, an association high. Women's cross country, women's tennis and women's soccer all finished the year with the achievement. All three actually finished the year in the top four among teams with women's soccer recording the highest team GPA in the MIAA.
All told 11 teams finished the year with the MIAA GPA award for Trine this year. That total was good enough to finish tied with Olivet for fourth-most teams earning the award. Men's indoor track & field was a newcomer for Trine. Returning to the list were men's and women's cross country, men's golf, men's and women's tennis, women's basketball, women's indoor and outdoor track & field, women's soccer and women's volleyball. For more information check out the MIAA's full release and for Thunder team's listed with their GPA see the table below.
Trine increased their membership on the 2018-19 MIAA Academic Honor Roll by 15 student-athletes. To be recognized, student-athletes must reach a 3.5 grade-point average for the academic year while also earning a varsity letter in an MIAA-sponsored sport.
This year 172 Thunder student-athletes were recognized by the MIAA for their excellence in the classroom, third-most among MIAA members. To see how other schools in the MIAA did and for a complete list of those student-athletes who were honored check out the MIAA's full release.
