Derek Prather joined Trine University football staff in 2012 and working with the defensive ends and special teams coordinator.
Prather coached Trine kickers to a First-Team All-MIAA selection in each of his first three seasons. Tyler Keck earned two first-team honors, while Joel Lopshire also earned a first-team honor under Prather's guidance. Prather also coached Mark Haydock to a Second Team selection 2015. Returner Jeffery Barnett earned All-Region honors in 2015 under Prather's guidance. Barnett followed that up with All-MIAA First Team honors as a returner in 2016.
Prior to Trine, coach Prather spent two years as the defensive line and sports performance coordinator at Doane College in Nebraska where they finished 8-2. Prather also spent a season at Stanford University where he served as an assistant sports performance coach. Prather broke into the coaching ranks in 2010 at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne where he coached the defensive line in addition to coordinating the sports performance programs for the baseball, basketball and football programs.
As a player, Prather was a part of three conference championship teams while playing defensive line at Saint Francis (IN) where he graduated in 2010 with a bachelor’s in Health and Exercise Science.
